'What are you going on about?' - Mohamed Salah's diet advice left Harvey Elliott baffled, but now Li

It is pretty common knowledge that brown bread is better for you than white bread.

But Liverpool teenager Harvey Elliott has revealed that it was teammate Mohamed Salah that enlightened him - and the Egyptian's advice seems to be working.

The 19-year-old has come a long way since he dislocated his ankle last September against Leeds.

After only playing 95 more minutes in the Premier League last season following his recovery, Elliott has played in every game this season for the Reds, more than any other teenager in the top flight.

Speaking to The Times this week, the youngster revealed that playing alongside some of the world's best footballers has been a huge help in developing his career.

But there was one piece of, let's say, unique advice given to him in pre-season in 2021 that's stayed with Elliott ever since...

“To have these players here and the chance to learn from them is amazing,” the midfielder explained.

“They all want me to do well and are giving me pointers, for example Mo [Salah] with the bread. I have taken it on board.

“My breakfast is mainly bread with beans or avocado. I did eat bread in the morning, but that was white bread. Now I have changed it to brown bread which is a lot healthier."

Elliott explained that although he was baffled by Salah's words of wisdom at first, he recognised that the Egyptian's success comes from the small life choices he makes.

And given Salah is one of football's most impressive wingers - winning the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 23 goals - Elliott admitted he would be a fool to dismiss his teammate's advice.

Elliott continued: “He is not someone to say, ‘You need to be doing this, you need to be doing that.’ He is more of a guy who helps you out and gives you pointers, and you go away and think about it.

“Now it is always in my head. At the time I was thinking, ‘What is he on about? I’m just having breakfast!’

"But looking back there are so many things you can change in your diet and it is just about the small margins. That is a prime example of what he is like.”

Liverpool are set to face league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday at 4:30pm. You can listen to all the updates from the game on talkSPORT's Sunday Session, live from 2pm.
