Hotel Bergs Hotel Review, Riga, Latvia

Size and shape distinguish between accommodation types, which all have a similar style: minimalist leanings, cream and charcoal shades, and dark wooden furniture. Each one is a suite with ample living and kitchen space, so even the smallest are among the city’s bigger hotel stock. Beds, mostly queen- or king-sized, lean towards firm (though not too hard). Latvian art seeps in, and desks, curtains and throws are among items sourced from local craftspeople.

Bathrooms are less exciting but entirely comfortable, with heated floors and Algotherm toiletries, plus robes and slippers. The Loft Suites add a mezzanine floor on which to sleep, and Penthouse are also two-storey. Room 317, the Executive Penthouse, has been styled differently from the rest: lighter wood, fret-cut wooden dividers, more curved edges and a bespoke king-sized bed from Latvia’s Heavens brand. Can’t sleep? Each room comes with a CD of 'serenity music' by the country’s best-known percussionist, Nils Ile, for a slightly different way to relax.
